UPDATED: Arizona Sheriff Reveals Strategy of Using Women as Human Shields at Bundy Ranch
UPDATE: At appx 6:00PM EST the Bundy family announced that they never intended to use woman as shields. In an Facebook update they said, “Shierff Mac is up in the night!! we NEVER did and NEVER will put women and children on the front line.”
The Bundy Ranch saga may have temporarily calmed down, but now there is new controversy. On Monday, a well-known Bundy supporter claimed that he and other organizers have planned to use women as human shields in order to further their goals.
Former Arizona Sheriff and strong Bundy supporter Richard Mack stated: “We were actually strategizing to put all the women up at the front,” he said. “If they are going to start shooting, it’s going to be women that are going to be televised all across the world getting shot by these rogue federal officers.”
It is not completely clear how many of the Bundy organizers were involved in this strategy of pushing innocent women into the forefront. However, Mack has been widely seen as one of the chief representatives and supporters of the Bundy cause.
Over the weekend, the Bureau of Land Management returned 400 cattle to the Bundy family, after saying that they were taking a step back from rounding up additional animals. The BLM and the courts have stated that Cliven Bundy is in the wrong, and owes significant unpaid fees for the use of public land. Bundy disagrees, and has been joined by many angry supporters, including Mack.
If former Sheriff Mack’s statements are accurate, it means that there is a chilling new twist to the Bundy conflict. While the Federal government has been strongly painted as the heavy-handed villain, a pro-Bundy strategy of pushing women into harm’s way for political purposes seems to be equally appalling.
