Gay Waitress Who Said She Got a Receipt With Gay Slur But No Tip is a Fraud
Dayna Morales, an ex-Marine and a server at a Bridgewater, NJ restaurant, who claims she got a receipt with a gay slur on it and no tip, has been outed as a fraud. The New Jersey couple who were the diners Morales accused of stiffing her, produced their receipt, both to the restaurant and to NBC in New York.
She has accepted money from well wishers who thought her story was true. She could face fraud charges.
Their receipt was for the same day, same time and same amount as the bill the waitress produced, with a couple of exceptions. One, there were no gay slurs and two the couple left an 18 dollar tip. The restaurant agrees that they did receive an 18 dollar tip but couldn’t produce their copy of the receipt, which was probably pulled so it couldn’t be compared to what the waitress claimed. The restaurant is now investigating the incident.
NBCNewYork.com said the couple contacted them after the story went viral and provided the original receipt as evidence, along with a credit card statement. The receipt the waitress produced was for $93.55 and no tip. The couple’s receipt showed an $18 dollar tip for a total charge of $111.55. Their Visa statement showed a charge of $111.55 for “meal and tip.” The couple both said they voted against Chris Christie because of his opposition to gay marriage. “Never would a message like that come from us,” he said.
Morales announced last week that she would donate thousands from her tips to the Wounded Warrior Fund. The wife commented:
“I just felt like people have a right to know that — it’s fine of people want to donate to her or to the Wounded Warriors, but they’re doing it under a false pretense.”
