Michelle Obama’s Princeton Classmate is Senior VP at Company that Built Failed Obamacare Website
The company that constructed the Healthcare.gov website is owned by Michelle Obama’s college classmate, Toni McCall Townes-Whitley, Princeton class of ’85, and is Senior Vice President at CGI Federal. Both Toni McCall Townes Whitley and Michelle Robinson Obama are members of the Princeton Association of Black Alumni. The Department of Health and Human Services reviewed only CGI’s bid for the Obama Care website even though there were four companies who bid and sixteen that were eligible to bid.
According to CGI’s company profiles, Townes-Whitley joined CGI in May 2010. She is a Senior Vice-President currently leading the Civilian Agency Programs (CAP) Business Unit for the Federal Group.
Now, being classmates by itself is not particularly damning, particularly with a larger college. Just because two people graduated from the same college doesn’t mean anything by itself. But when considers the process by which CGI obtained the contract, the college association between the two women becomes more relevant. After CGI received the contract for the Obama Care website, they became an Obama Campaign donor. I guess the house gets their cut of the pie.
Let’s be honest, how many people have a no-bid contract with the Federal government?
This isn’t CGI’s first and only rodeo either. CGI appears to have been involved with HUD contracts from the Clinton years. CGI, the biggest of all the subcontractors, provides the infrastructure and support to route housing subsidies to landlords and monitor for compliance with HUD rules. In virtually every quarter from 2010 through 2012, CGI Group itself was lobbying on “HUD housing management contracts.”
This isn’t Sebelius’ first failed website either. The people in Kansas know all too well Sebelius’s inability to oversee the creation of a functioning website. Her administration completely bungled the websites for the State of Kansas for the Department of Labor and the Department of Motor Vehicles. Apparently, these failures were fairly epic. That may explain why no one in Kansas signed up for Obama Care; they’ve been through it with Sebelius before. What else could go wrong?
Valerie Jarrett is also rumored to have her hand in the matter. According to the rumor Jarrett’s daughter, Laura worked for CGI. Jarrett’s daughter Laura and Tony Balkissoon, son of Toronto MPP Bas Balkissoon were married in Chicago in 2012. The rumor claims that the American government took the CGI contract off the hands of the Canadian government. However, the story appears to be rumor at the moment, with no substantiation or motivation for the U.S. government to bail out the Canadian government. Time will tell if there is any information substantiating the rumor.
According to All Voices website, the President has called in those who worked on his campaign website to fix the problem.
Jeffrey Zients, President Barack Obama’s specialist given the task to fix the health care sign-up website, assured Americans the site would be running properly by the end of November, according to USA Today.
“By the end of November, HealthCare.gov will work smoothly for the vast majority of users,” Zients said Friday. “The HealthCare.gov site is fixable. It will take a lot of work, and there are a lot of problems that need to be addressed.”
Obama called on Zients Monday to assist with the site because he had been instrumental in helping with other websites glitches since Obama’s election in 2008
The crony capitalism continues. At least Zients can say he has had success in the industry.
